Fine Music For Free - Summer Recitals, 2019

This is the page for our free Saturday evening recitals. For all our other events, including ticketed recitals and concerts, please visit our What's coming up page.

The St Mary's Summer Recitals, initially all organ, were started in 1999 by our organist Bill Sibbey. Since his death in 2013, we've grown the series to include a wider range of music, while still keeping some slots to show off our superb Bevington organ.

The recitals are free and include complimentary refreshments afterwards, but we do ask people to give what they can in a retiring collection. From the collection, we pay our performers a modest 'fee' - really a contribution towards their costs. The remainder goes towards paying for our concert-worthy 1904 Bechstein, beautifully reconditioned by Brighton piano specialist David Ingledew, which we bought in May 2017. We have raised over £11,000 towards its total cost of £18,000 and are hopeful that we will complete the fundraising this year. So, if you can help fill the collection basket at our recitals, please do! And please use a white Gift Aid envelope for your donation if you are a UK tax-payer. Every £1 donation that is gift-aided brings us £1.25 in total.
