Free Summer Recitals, 2018

This is the page for our free Saturday evening recitals. For all our other events, including ticketed recitals and concerts, please visit our What's coming up page.

The St Mary's Summer Recitals, initially all organ, were started in 1999 by our organist Bill Sibbey. Since his sudden death in 2013, we've grown the series to include a wider range of music, while still keeping some slots to show off our superb Bevington organ.

The recitals are free and include complimentary refreshments afterwards, but we do ask people to give what they can in a retiring collection. We are still fundraising to pay for our concert-worthy 1904 Bechstein, beautifully reconditioned by Brighton piano man David Ingledew, which we bought in May 2017. Last year we raised over £5,000 towards its total cost £18,000. It was a great start, but we still have a way to go. If you can help fill our fundraising baskets at our recitals, please do!
