Christmas Comfort & Joy Giving Appeal
This year's Christmas Appeal will be launched soon and will be fundraising for a hope-filled Christmas at St Mary's, with a takeaway festive lunch on Christmas Day and a warm and welcoming, beautifully-decorated church. Together, we can bring comfort and joy to our community. Please help if you able to. Christmas Services 2021 Restrictions place by the government may affect what we can do but we hope to be able to hold all our services as normal. We continue to broadcast most of our services for people to view online at home, this will include our Midnight Mass and Christmas Day Eucharist. Sunday, 28 November 2021, 4 pm Stations of the Crib - an Advent Meditation A reflective service led by Margaret Green, one of our readers, who will be introducing the Stations of the Crib, as designed and created by Fathers Martin Morgan and James Foley. Margaret will be continuing to discuss these in the first of our Advent Reflections on Monday 29th November at 2.15pm. Sunday, 5 December 2021, 10 am Second Sunday of Advent - Sung Eucharist Led by Fr Martin Hume, with sermon by Fr Mike Fudger. Sunday, 12 December 2021, 10 am Third Sunday of Advent - Sung Eucharist Led by Fr Mike Fudger, with sermon by Rev'd Sarah Van den driessche. Sunday, 12 December 2021, 5 pm St Mary's Carol Service The Service of Nine Lessons and Carols is a beautiful, reflective service. This year the choir of St Mary's will be joined again by our friends from the Ovingdean Choral Society, conducted by Gregory Moore, with Jonathan Hodgson on the organ. Traditional readings from the King James Bible and candles galore. Sunday, 19 December 2021, 10 am Fourth Sunday of Advent - Sung Eucharist Led by Fr Martin Hume, who will also be preaching. Friday, 24 December 2021, 3 pm Christmas Eve - Crib Service A beautiful, accessible service especially for little children, with the crib, a stupendous tree, a sparkly reindeer and lots and lots of candles. Rather nice for older people too! Children are welcome to come in costume. We can always accommodate more shepherds, donkeys and angels - or whatever takes your little one's fancy. Friday, 24 December 2021, 11.15 pm & online Christmas Eve - Midnight Mass of the Nativity The Midnight Mass of the Nativity is for many people the highlight of the Christmas calendar. If you're someone who only goes to church once a year, we would love to see you and the church is warm - in all senses of the word - we promise! Download the readings for this service Saturday, 25 December 2021, 10 am & online Christmas Day - Said Eucharist & free Lunch Finally, we have our Christmas Day Eucharist on Tuesday, 25 December, at 10 am. Again, everyone is very welcome. Download the readings for this service. Following the service, at 12.30 pm, we will be welcoming people to the church for our Christmas Day lunch.
