Christmas services and events at St Mary's
Sunday, 3 December 2017, 12 noon - Bring & Share Advent Lunch
Sunday, 3 December is the First Sunday in Advent, and we will be following our regular Sunday morning Eucharist at 10 am with a Bring & Share Advent Lunch at 12 noon. This is a happy, communal way to mark the season of hope and anticipation that precedes the celebration of Jesus's coming at Christmas. All welcome.
Sunday, 10 December 2017, 5 pm - Carol Service
The Service of Nine Lessons and Carols is a beautiful, reflective service. This year the choir of St Mary's will be joined again by our neighbours from St George's Church and the Ovingdean Singers, all under the capable baton of Gregory Moore, with Andrew Beaizley on the organ. Traditional readings from the King James Bible and candles galore. Wine and Christmas nibbles afterwards.
Saturday, 23 December 2017, 3 pm - Crib Service
A beautiful, accessible service especially for little children, with the crib, a stupendous tree, a sparkly reindeer and lots and lots of candles. Rather nice for older people too! Children are welcome to come in costume. We can always accommodate more shepherds, donkeys and angels - or whatever takes your little one's fancy.
Sunday, 24 December 2017, 10 am - Sung Eucharist
Our normal Parish Eucharist on the Fourth Sunday of Advent. We'll be serving tea, coffee and biscuits afterwards, as usual, at 11.15 am. If you're not familiar with St Mary's and would like to look around, the tea and coffee slot is a great time to drop in, wander about and meet people.
Sunday, 24 December 2017, 11.15 pm - Midnight Mass of the Nativity
The Midnight Mass of the Nativity is for many people the highlight of the Christmas calendar. If you're someone who only goes to church once a year, we would love to see you. We welcome everybody to this very special service. And the church is warm - in all senses of the word - we promise!
Monday, 25 December 2017, 10 am - Sung Eucharist & Lunch
Finally, we have our Christmas Day Eucharist on Monday, 25 December, at 10 am. Again, everyone is very welcome.
Following our service, we will have a simple, shared lunch; anyone who finds themselves at a loose end on Christmas Day is invited to join in. If you would like to help with providing food, serving, washing dishes, etc., please get in touch here.
